You are also right. My educated guess is that at some point the BdU made the decision to send the boote with the most expierenced crews and those who completed almost the training to Norway because it would be safer there with the almost continues air-attacks on the harbours in Germany. Also the fact that cruising the Denmark straights would be the same as running the gauntlet for the U-boote, the transfer of the new XXI's to the safehavens in Norway was the best thing to do in that stage of the war. That is probably also the reason some boats were lost during the transfer as a result from ait-attack.
By the way, you seem to be quiet an authorety on the subject to, regarding the postings on this forum. I hope we will meet some day in the flesh.
