<HTML>According to the Pink List, which gives the whereabouts of ships of the Royal Navy at 1600 hrs each day, there were 63 naval vessels in Scapa Flow in Orkney, Scotland, on the afternoon of the 12th October. The largest and/or most important were the aircraft carrier Furious, Repulse, Royal Oak and Iron Duke, moored off C buoy off Lyness naval base; three heavy cruisers (HMS Newcastle, HMS Southampton and HMS Glasgow); and five light cruisers (HMS Aurora, HMS Cardiff, HMS Caledon, HMS Calypso and HMS Dunedin). The other vessels consisted of 13 destroyers (HMS Somali, HMS Ashanti, HMS Mashona, HMS Matabele, HMS Tartar, HMS Eskimo, HMS Fearless, HMS Foxhound, HMS Fame, HMS Foresight, HMS Jervis, HMS Jupiter and HMS Sturdy); five minesweepers (HMS Hazard, HMS Hebe, HMS Seagul, HMS Sharpshooter and HMS Speedy); the A/A ship Curlew; the seaplane carrier Pegasus; 10 armed merchant cruisers (Asturias, Aurania, Scotstoun, California, Chitral, Montclare, Rawalpindi, Salopian, Transylvania and Voltaire); the destroyer depot and repair ship Greenwick; the netlayer Guardian; the auxiliary minesweeping trawlers Silicia and Sterton; the Fleet tugs Bandit and St.Martin; nine boom defence vessels (Barbican, Barcroft, Barlow, Barranca, Brine, Dragonet, Moorgate, Plantagenet and Signet); and six Fleet drifters (Fumarole, Harmatta, Horizon, Indian Summer, Sheen and Shower). The hospital ship Aba was also anchored.
By dawn on the 13th nine naval vessels had left Scapa Flow (Repulse, Fame, Foresight, Glasgow, Dunedin, Newcastle, Furious, Foxhound and Fearless.)
Throughout the day of the 13th ships came and went. The light cruisers HMS Columbo and HMS Dehli arrived. Southampton, Matabele, Jervis, Jupiter and Sturdy left. HMS Belfast arrived.
That night there were 51 vessels in Scap Flow, 18 of which could be described as fighting ships - Royal Oak, Belfast, Aurora, Cardiff, caledon, Columbo, Dehli, Somali, Ashanti, Mashona, Eskimo, Tartar, Hazard, Hebe, Seagull, Sharpshooter, Speedy and the A/A ship Curlew.
