Been there - suffered that - especially in the 1950\'s & 60\'s when memories were still fresh and old wounds not healed. One thought helped though - an interest in SM U-boats - same country - same people - same brave seamen (yes and soldiers/airmen etc) but no Nazi party, no SS, no Gestapo.
England has fought with and against Germany - we are very very close in so many respects (as indeed are a lot of Americans are who are descended from both nations). It is really only the political aspects, NSDAP, that mark the difference.
A German soldier is a German soldier and was respected as a good fighting man by many of his enemies.
