How about this guess of mine:

U-862,(Timm) sank US Freighter ROBERT J WALKER
in 36*45´S-150*43´E on 24 Dec -44?

It is on the \"far (eastern) side\" of Australia,
and the position ought to be pretty close off Sidney!
