<HTML>U-boat operations in the Med were hampered by the fact that the water was relatively transparent ( so aircraft could see the submerged boats more easily ), while the Med is also shallow compared to the Atlantic. Apparently, the Germans never moved U-boats from the Atlantic to the Med by transporting them over land. IIRC, The only instance this occured was when type II boats were transported to the Black Sea to sink Russian ships. Doenitz wasn\'t too happy about sending U-boats to the med, it was an idea from Hitler. Doenitz\' opinion was the U-boats should be concentrated in the Atlantic.</HTML>
