The Sengwarden base was not completed until about November 1939 and very few sea-going officers knew its exact location. The U-boat base in Wilhelmshaven was at Bant - at that time Germany's only purpose built U-boat base. When the U-boat Staff moved to Wilhelmshaven at the beginning of the war they were were located in a hut near the main radio station. This radio station was purpose built and is still there, although the bunker is hidden by a layer of bricks to disguise it. The Sengwarden base was also disguised to look like a farm. As you leave the village it is on your left along a road heading in a south-westerly direction. The radio station is located to the south of the Ehrenfriedhof (With pocket battleship Deutschland, U-boat and other memorials) along Totenweg.
