<HTML>Hi Fin - again,
Didnt really get the chance to complete this posting - using a pc at work and someone being nosey.
Re 300 U-boats or any number you can think of - the average during the war was, I believe especially with a smaller number, reckoned to be one third of the boats on station, one third in transit to and from patrol areas and one third in dockyard hands. I believe that in the early months of the war there were sometimes only one or two U-boats on patrol and the rest were going to or from patrol or being maintained. In those days nothing built by mankind had as many pipes, wires, dials, gauges, engines, motors, etc. packed into such a confined space as a submarine.
Best wishes friend
