<HTML>Hi Peter . The KTB of U-108 contains the following- quote
03h13-BC3223-Fired a 4 torpedo spread at an independently sailing freighter. After 2 minutes,22 seconds, there are two hits. One in the middle 7 one in the fore part of the ship. The frighter begins settling 7 fires her deck gun.
03h18-BC3223-Dived & prepared for coup de grace..... while preparing for the finishing shot it is established the frighter was a U.S. Liberty ship, type C2 9,000 BRT, 151/2 knots.
04h43-BC3223-Fired a single torpedo..... miss
05h59-BC3223-Fired another single torpedo...hit, followed by a munitions explosion
06h03-BC3223-freighter sinks by the stern.
After checking the position (50:40n40:40w) approx, this is a posible route a independant ship would take. Other reported U-boat attacks on a ship which could have been the R.G. occured around convoys.Where U-108 sank a indepedant, which would account for no survivors. U-108 gives a strong case to be the one who sank the R.G. - john</HTML>
