Not very likely.
More likely is that the PB4Y was a victim of the Luftwaffe. There are two claims for 2 September 1943 over the Bay of Biscay:
At 09.39 hours, a "Liberator II" shot down by a Ju-88C (Ltn. Knud Gmelin) of 13./KG 40.
At 16.56 hours, a "Liberator II" shot down by a Bf-110G (Oblt. Kurt Necesany) of 2./ZG 1.
