I would like any information, such as year built, by what builder, dimensions, etc, on the 1888 ton Swedish merchantman Elgo, sunk by gunfire and torpedoes by the Italian submarine Pier Capponi, in the early morning of the 22nd of June, 1940. This was the second merchant ship sunk in the Mediterranean by an Italian submarine, since Italy entered the war. She went down in a position of 36.59N/11.12E, carrying what cargo? for which side? any casualties? survivors rescued by whom, since she would not be shelled by a submarine if she had been in convoy. I wish Italian submarine operations had a website such as this one for German U-boats. Any information at all would be appreciated. Regards Steve.
