Everyone,
First of all thanks to everyone for their kind words, I did not expect much of a response to my update so --thanks.
Re: paint. I'd feel great if U-505 became more of a reference point for modellers in the future! If some learn their models are wrong there is always the claim that "This is a prototype paint scheme that was not approved" ha ha ha.
If there is one thing I learned it is that no two boats were alike re: paint and while there were standards they became guidelines and everyone did what they could to follow them but at some point a coat of paint slowed rusting and that was key...
On the exterior there was no original paint to match so the archival sources were key, however, as we all know it is hard to get all the resources to agree and so I gave it my best shot considering the time and constraints I was under. It will look better and I feel good about it being like she was on the day it was captured and my guess is that if she were in port in 1944 nobody would point and say, "Hey look at how wrong that boat is painted".
The interior was a pretty cool project and someday I hope to publish all of this. Still some things had to be generalized again due to time constraints, mainly some valve handles and wheels but this too will succumb eventually to time as we zero everything in.
One cool thing I was able to do was to take some color chips to the U-534 and confirm I had the right colors such as the RAL7000 and RAL 7001 as well as RAL 1014 and RAL 1015 Ivory colors.
Enough for now I guess. We look forward to having you all see the boat in the summer!
