U-32s` commander OL HANS JENISCH was awarded the Knights Cross on October the 7th 1940 and was responsible for sinking the SS EMPRESS OF BRITAIN ,the largest ship ever sunk by a U-Boat.Incidentaly the EMPRESS was herself under tow by the Polish destroyer BURZA after being badly damaged by a Kondor aircraft of 2 Kondorgruppe 40 flown by Lt B.Jope on26.10.40.
the EMPRESS OF BRITAIN was sunk two days later.
