Hi All,
I remember watching a tv programme some years back where a uboat commander related this story. My memory may be playing tricks but I'm sure he said he was on his way home and had used up all of his torpedoes. He said he lined up the shot and went through the motions of firing, he then tipped his cap and continued on his way.
This may go against this chivalrous aspect of Joe's story but that's how I remember it.
Do Chara
Barry
