The first mate on Ehrenfels was an Abwher spy of the marine service, codenamed "Trompeta." Throughout the early war years he gained information from a shipping clerk at Bombay associated with the Indian nationalist movement, codenamed "Father."
Thus the Ehrenfels was a clearing house through the war for information on allied shipping and was of grave concern to the British. This explains why U-boat sinkings actually dropped after the Goa raid. No doubt another Ian Flemming masterpiece ?
