<HTML>A few years ago, while doing some research on the Tiger Tank, I came across a web site for a group of armor collectors. Their thing was to go though the battlefields of Eastern Eupore, locating and collecting parts and compleat vehicles for their collections. I recall one section where they documented the recovery of a T-34 tank from a lake, and a small German tracked APC from a barn.
Another section of their site was given to describing their efforts in dealing with the war dead that they came across lying un-buried in the woods. These were soldiers who fell over 50 years ago, and were just left where they fell, w/o benefit of even an improper burial. This group made efforts to see that these men received a proper burial, and where possible, their families were notified of their final disposition. Some of the photos I saw were of skeletons and rotting remains of uniforms, partially buried (as would happen over the course of 1/2 a century).
I wonder if these \"antiquities dealers\" aren\'t just a European variation on what we in America call a \"pothunter\", one who locates and robs archeological sites for items to sell to museums and art collectors?
kpp, I think the Volksbund should definitely be informed about this.</HTML>
