Just to get the facts correct - there are u boat pens on Bear Island - I have been there last year and have seen them myself. I was lucky enough to be able to join a Norwegian biology trip (via my uni in the UK). During our second week on the island we visited the area most used by the Germans during WW2. With some climbing we were able to descend a section of cliff and get to the u boat pen entrance. The inside of the pen is in a semi-ruined state but fascinating. There are three pens with a largish area to the left for stores. The rear section is completely fallen in from rock falls - too dangerous to explore as amateurs.
I will try to contact my colleagues on the trip who took some flash photos and hopefully post them.
Cheers John H.
