To my knowledge all the crew did was make sure the cap (on the end of the gun) was on to prevent water going into the tube as that is the most important part of a gun to keep clean. As far as the ammunition is concerned, I\'m not sure if that mattered as much as it could be replaced. I know others in here will probably have better answers for you.
