<HTML>Also, remember, U-boats didn\'t stay submerged like modern subs. Mainly they were surface ships that occassionally submerged. Erich Topp even mentioned one other thing to me during my recent visit. U-boats weren\'t generally supposed to submerge just to escape heavy seas (unnecessary drain on the batts that might be needed for real emergencies, I imagine). Also said that at 50 meters a boat would still feel much turbulence, but that at 100 meters, the sailing was finally rather smooth.

Still, even surfaced, you know everything had to be continuously washed by spray and waves...
