Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, hello hwm,
surely I am not the experienced contributor Jean Noell is looking for but I believe I am able to retrace why hwm even as an historian might still be p…. off at LGB. It was pretty heavy laid on LGB for him being a litigious person or as they say in German “Prozesshansel†after him having published his book DAS BOOT taking even some of the merited veterans of the uboat crews to court for alleged slandering the great “author†when they dared to criticize, even heftily some of his views.
We all may recall please him some time ago trying to attack GUMMI for allegedly having committed a or participated in a copy right infringement when on this forum a picture was published showing two officers in a kind of debriefing situation after a patrol, LGB claiming him being the sole owner of the copy right on this picture. From a legal point of view I think such claim was totally unsound but he tried anyway although he should have known better.- I have problem in finding the respective thread on this forum so maybe somebody can help.
So maybe we could characterise LGB as a sometimes flamboyant Poltergeist who could at specific moments be a real pain in the butt but nevertheless was and still be admired for producing such a piece of art as DAS BOOT thus, also, stirring up especially in Germany this controversial issue as to how and in what category the Uboat arm was involved within the Nazi – system in Germany during the time of WWII, whom, of course nobody is obliged to shed tears for after him leaving this globe, but in doing so not necessarily violating "de mortui nihil nisi bene".
Well in the end I think LGB will remain and be remembered as a highly controversial character within the range of subjects on this forum thus giving us a chance, as right now, to communicate with each other.
