Dear Mrs Noreen Scully, hello All,
“There is no language like the Irish for soothing and quieting.â€, J M Synge (The Aran Islands)
Well, that is the way Barry Scully, your dear husband, used to write me some personal messages via the Internet and on the forum; especially trying to quieting me about this famous Irish “Black Onesâ€. And I believe his messages, always knowledgeable and full of humor, were intended to sooth the forum - “gang†to take it easy but still take it. I will miss him and I too will miss his DO CHARA but will remember for him just this greeting and him always being cheerful.
“May your glass be ever full†(1)
In a mannered way he told me this was no problem.
“May the roof over your head be always strong,†(2)
-Marry a mountain girl and you marry the whole mountain.-, Irish proverb
That’s how and why he had a strong roof over him and his family, no problem either, he told me.
“And may you be in heaven Half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.â€, (3) Irish drinking toast
As sad as it might sound right now, that was the least of his problems. Only that he managed this one, I believe for all of us, much, much to early.
Of course we’ll, I’ll miss him, but won’t forget him, and I think he’ll take his time in heaven, a.o. to visit all the sailors, be that in the uboat detachment or some other places and tell the devil to get lost.
You all have a nice day.
Sincerely Yours
VEK
