Hello my freinds
I am a documentary filmaker creating a story about North Africa 1942. My Dad was aboard the Thomas Stone, (AP -59), when it was torpedoed November 7th 1942.
I've got 3 years of research into the topic, including many out of print books. One in particular; Edward E. Ellsberg who was the Naval Salvage officer assigned to trying to refit the Stone.
Long story short, in a reference to an old reply; [www.uboat.net]

Bruce...
According to Rohwer - Axis Submarine Successes Of WW2 (1999):
The Thomas Stone was hit by an airborne torpedo and towed to Algiers, where she was hulked for the French Navy.

Ken Deshaies
Ken - how can we assume from page 237 from "Axis Submarine Successes Of WW2" that the torpedo was in fact airborn?

And from Francesco Mattesini

Francesco can you explain your connection to this topic? I always thought the plane was a JU88. (I will also email you regarding this)
