U-boat pens in La Rochelle/La Pallice

I am visiting France from 21 August 2008 and should be in La Rochelle the first week in September. I believe there are U-boat pens in La Rochelle/La Pallice which my father and I would like to visit. However, we do not know exactly where they are, if they are accessible and if so, how to get to them. Would you be able to help please?
