I travel to NZ quite often and was in NZ a few years back when an article appeared in a boating mag. I brought the article home (US/Florida) and emailed a bit with John Chatterton. Chatterton, many of you will remember, was instrumental in identifying U-869 off the coast of New Jersey. This was all written about in the amazing book, "Shadow Divers" by Robert Kurson. John and his partner, Richie Kohler have had a TV series in the US called "Deep Sea Detectives". One episode was about an unknown U-Boat near the UK. Bottom line is that Chatterton knows a LOT about U-Boats.
I sent him the article as I knew that his TV crew were to be in NZ doing a show on a sunken ship and I figured that he'd want to know of the possibility of a U-Boat in NZ waters. He did some of his own research and concluded that this was NOT a U-Boat........
I tend to agree that after 60+ years of crashing surf, heavy tidal flow, storms, etc, that any wreck in that area would/should be scattered by now.....
