I am also researching this area now so I will continue these deliberations here:

According to majority of data I have found on the Internet (also on uboat.net website) Type IX/B/C subs carried 22 torpedoes while larger Type IXD2 carried 24 fishes. However I am not sure if described above torpedo loading scheme is correct because I read here that topside containers included always 10 torpedoes on all Type IX boats. If so, remaining 12-14 torpedoes should have been placed inside the U-boat. That way one would obtain result that Type IX/B/C carried 12 torps inside and Type IXD2 14 torps respectively. However this is not possible because internal magazines on Type IX boats could house as much as 15 torps if above listing is right. Another idea of Type IX internal storage is as follows:

- 4 in tubes in bow compartment
- 2 on deck plates in bow compartment
- 4 under deck plates in bow compartment
- 2 in tubes in stern compartment
- 2 on deck plates in stern compartment

which gives us 14 torps for Type IXD2 boats and:

- 4 in tubes in bow compartment
- 0 on deck plates in bow compartment
- 4 under deck plates in bow compartment
- 2 in tubes in stern compartment
- 2 on deck plates in stern compartment

which equals 12 torps for Type IX/B/C subs. That way mentioned above data should be correct because 10+12=22 (IX/B/C) and 10+14=24 (IXD2).

As one can see there is a huge mess for me in this data so I'd like to get some advice from more experienced uboat.net forum posters.
