I have a U-boat clock presented to my late father who took the boat's surrender in May 1945.
On the clock face there should be a number with the letter 'N' and the swastika with the letter 'M' underneath. M denotes Marine and N Nordsee.
The clocks were 8 day and were manufactured by Kieninger & Obergfell.
To my knowledge there are no surviving records as to which clock was allocated to which craft. The lower the number on the face the older the U-boat. A word of caution however, there are copies, usually manufactured in Eastern Europe.
I note that you came across the clock in Donegal - this hints that the clock is genuine and the U-boat may well have been sunk in operation Dreadlight. Of the 154 U-boats surrendered at the end of WW11, 121 were scuttled in deep water off Lisahally, Northern Ireland or Loch Ryan, Scotland in late 1945 and early 1946.
The boats were first stripped of anything of value.
Hope this info is of help. If genuine the clock is valuable and should be adequately insured. send me a private e-mail and I will give you a valuation.
