Dear all,
i am an English historian who is desperately trying to ascertain details concerning my late father.
Apparently, as a young Kreigsmarine corporal, he was assigned the role of cook on board the U444, which left Kiel and was blown up in the Pacific. He was later taken to Texas by the Americans and then Waterloo, Belgium, before serving time as a prisoner of war in East Yorkshire, England.
However, events don't seem to follow my father's recollections.....? His name was Werner Schwalbe, and he does not appear to have been listed in the crew who perished, let alone the four survivors!
Understandibly, i would be most grateful for anything that you can supply me with in terms of information.
Thanks,
Mark
