Hi Dan,
Any watch with a U-boat number on it is almost certainly a fake - at least not an "issue" watch. Watches were not issued to the boats so there was no reason to mark one with a U-boat number. It is highly unlikely that a crewmember would have marked his watch with his U-boat number for security reasons and he knew he might be transferred to another U-boat the next day anyway. The watch was probably marked after the war.
