Blenheim damaged by submarine, 29 July 1941.

Hallo all,

I am looking for help concerning the fate of a Royal Air Force 203 Squadron Blenheim IV, Z6431 (pilot Sgt. E. Langston). Several books state it unsuccessfully attacked a submarine in the eastern Mediterranean on 29 July 1941. Subsequently when landing back at its base near Mersa Matruh, Egypt the undercarriage collapsed and the aircraft was damaged beyond repair. The crew were uninjured.

However one book ('THE BRISTOL BLENHEIM' by Graham Warner) states this Blenheim was damaged by return fire from the submarine.

Can anyone please identify the submarine involved ?
