Hello Ghostmooner,

I purchased a Leutnant zur See cap from Soldat and it comes with the scalloped trim on the visor. I did not notice any vertical stiffener in the front peak area and the white top is removable just like the one listed on the web site below (item 091S01):

I assume this cap is an original and it sold for a very stiff price ($6,500)! I don't know enough about the cap to be an expert. I assume the removable top would allow the officer to change the top for the season, and the U-boat captain could go white. However, I have seen several photos of U-boat captains wearing the blue top. Perhaps this information helps
