Thanks very much for your comments, and I agree with you that dropping blind one-on-one at high speed is not a successful escort tactic. Also, I was thinking of a possible WWII creeping attack where one escort at slow speed would hold contact with sonar and the "shooter" would come in, drop charges blind on the spot specified by the "spotter," and then get at least far enough away to avoid damage, and perhaps get even farther away, at a higher speed, to avoid, or at least minimize the chances of, a successful torpedo attack from a surviving submarine. Your insight on the higher speed, shorter time to release, larger error radius also suggests ruling out a higher speed drop when working with a spotter escort in a creeping attack.
