U-Boat Alcohol Policies

Greetings,
I'm doing some research regarding U-Boat crews and beer. I've read several places on the internet that U-Boat crewmen drank Becks.
Does anyone know what the shipboard policies were? I'm wondering if crews were allowed to drink while underway, or if there was some sort of daily allowance, similar to the British Rum Ration of old? Also, were there different rules relating to officers vs. crew, etc. I'm curious as to where the Becks reference comes from? Was there a U-Boat found with intact bottles of beer within?
I'm curious as to any information or any sources, or suggestions of sources, anyone may have on this topic.
