When the Type X U-234 (KL Johann Heinrich Fehler) surrednered to U.S. forces at the Portsmouth, New Hampshire Navy Base (originally headed from Norway to Japan)
on 19 May 1945 she was found to be carrying approximately 900 bottles of so-called "liquor" which actually turned out to have been litre bottles of Beck's beer.
