<HTML>Hi Chris
U-179 is sunk in the pos. WNW of Cape Town (33º38\'S 17º05\'E)
UIT22 is sunk in the pos. S of Cape Town (41º28\'S 17º40\'E)

U-179 there are no survivors 61 dead
UIT 22 there are no survivors 43 dead

U-179 Was caught on the surface by a searchlight from the destroyer HMS Active after the sunk of the M.V. City of Athens. The boat dive and was forced to resurface by depth-charge\'s, then rammed and sunk by HMS Active.

UIT 22 was sighted on the surface by a Catalina of 262 Squadron (LT. T.Roddick). The aircraft attacked, dropping five DC and strafing the boat. The badly-listing UIT-22 submerged, leaving a large oil slick. When she resurfaced, Roddick made another strafing attack. Other Catalinas arrive to relive Rodddick, whose aircraft had been damaged by return fire. Then in a DC attack, the boat dive forever.
