I was flying a P39, my unit was the 345th fighter squadron, 12th Air Force.
That morning I was on convoy patrol, mostly watching the diesel smoke plumes off of the convoy. As I flew, I noticed a silver glint at the edge of the convoy. Coming in closer I could make out the shape of a submarine deck in the water, and the conning tower. I then came back for a gun pass.
