Re: US submarine operations in the Atlantic

Hi Platon:
You have to remember that there was a shortage of submarine torpedoes during the
time all those boats were bing built on the East Coast. They all left shakedown without a full load of torpedoes and had to stop by the Guantanamo Bay torpedo shop
and the San Juan, Puerto Rico torpedo shop also. Heck, we were loading Mark 15 surface torpedoes in the After Torpedo Rooms, so the boats had something to shoot if they encountered the enemy on their way to the Pacific.
In the shop, we had to add special "side gears" for gyro setting, change the guide studs to accommodate submarine tubes. Shorter warheads were installed also. You see
the MK 14s had two speeds while the MK 15s had three speeds.
