Based on the fact, a RAF – plane (meidet – avoided, maybe a typo; meldet reported) reported an attack in grid BF 8350, and except/besides U 116 no other German U-boat was present even close to said position, it has to be concluded, U116 was sunk by this plane. All hands, 55, lost their life. At this time U116 was on patrol for 20 days and had supplied 6 combat boats.
