Oh, I almost forgot to add that the first two Air Medals ever given out in the United States were given to CAP members.
"CAP members received the first two Air Medals (given for valor in aerial flight) ever awarded by the United States. Major Hugh Sharp and Lieutenant Eddie Edwards received the medals in mid-1942 for rescuing CAP Lt. Henry Cross, who crashed into the sea while on coastal patrol. These medals were awarded by President Franklin Roosevelt, in theOval Office of the White House."
