twin screw, and alength of 50+ meters were pretty common for WWI and WWII boats. Deck guns were also still usually mounted in front of the conning tower. Still, just these basic facts eliminate the German Type XXI and most British submarines of WWII (but not the S and U types) - RN subs often had their deck guns mounted on part of the conning tower.
Now for an important question: were any anti-aircraft guns fitted on the conning tower?
Was there any sort of small deck at the rear of the conning tower as in this drawing (http://www.uboat.net/types/viic.htm)?
