The lack of anti-aircraft gun is very important. Some possibilities: early WWII British S class submarine or an U class submarine. Just about every other WWII submarine would carry some sort of anti-aircraft gun (2 machine guns being the smallest AA armament - common for Italian and French boats).

Or it could be a WWI submarine. In fact, that could be the more likely option.

Now, how many many torpedo tubes does this submarine have and where are they (bow, stern, fixed external)?
