I’m new to U-Boats so please don’t hesitate to correct me if I’m wrong! Firstly I’m interested optical equipment and I’m also a photographer of sorts. I was on the Internet not looking for anything in particular when I came across a German optical instrument listed as a rangefinder. I did a little research about it and found some references to U-Boat periscopes but not much else. So I decided to buy it as it looked intriguing. The rangefinder itself is in fair condition and the construction is Quality. There is a number on the back, which is very hard to determine as it has been scratched in, the number is either 2017 or 3017. Could it come from U-3017 when it was being scraped or decommissioned in Britain?

I would very much appreciate if anyone could give me any more info on this rangefinder.
