Hi Mark, this was the agreed destruction of surplus to requirements (U-boats), that in the main by Britain, America having taken the U-boats in the best condition, plus examples of the new type XXI ans XXIII, then letting Russia have a share, wanted the rest gone as to prevent any further arguing of what to do with them. This was carried out under code named 'Deadlight. However there were many other U-boats scuttled during May 45 and one or two after that by their crews along Norwegian and Baltic sea areas, for what ever reason. These in the most were later raised scrapped near where they were scuttled. regards John
