I have added a tranlated version for our non-Italian speaking community:
On December 13, 1943, during a mission to return to Italy from Algiers, the small fast light cruiser, "Pompeo Magno" hit in broad daylight, an underwater obstacle, which was considered the hull of a submarine. Today, for the first time ever, we can reveal here that it was the German submarine U-73, which suffered various damage to the conning tower from the Italian, while she was at periscope depth. The U-73 quadruple 20 mm anti-aircraft gun was also destroyed and the commander of the submarine, Lieutenant Horst Deckert, felt that the collision had occurred with a destroyer. Nevertheless, the U-73 continued on it's mission, reaching the north of Oran where the December 16 attack on Allied convoy GUS 24 resulted in the sinking of the steamer U.S. (Liberty) John S. Copley to 7,176 GRT.
