Something clearly incorrect with the details relating to U-255 in the individual U-boat data on this site.

If the boat entered Loch Eriboll on 17 May 1945 it cannot have been transferred from there to Loch Ryan on 14 May. I suspect that the confusion arises from the boat's surrender, at sea, on 14 May 1945.

The boat was escorted into Loch Eriboll during the early morning of 17 May, was initially inspected there to verify that it was innocuous and was then escorted onwards to Loch Alsh later that day, 17 May, for final inspection.

Loch Ryan was available as a laying-up port only from the arrival there of HMS SANDHURST on 27 May. Prior to that date all surrendered U-boats were escorted from Loch Alsh directly to Lisahally. This what happened in the case of U-255.

Surrendered U-boats did not begin to arrive in Loch Ryan until 2nd June; the first to arrive came from Scapa Flow once the initial inspection facilities had been established there after they had been disbanded at Loch Eriboll.
