<HTML>Dear Kurt,
in order to be precise, you should clarify if you are intending the \"demodic\" Japanese, that is the language usually spoken by the commoners, or \"jeratic\" Japanese, which is the ceremonial language. When Emperor Hiroito announced the surrender of Japan in 1945 (56 year ago exactly) his aired speech was not clearly understood by the people, they just guessed that they were not going to be all killed in action.
In this sense \"Yamato\" may be either \"Japan\" or \"great happiness\".
The difference between the two languages may be considered similar to the difference between ancient and present day Greek, Latin and Italian, Yiddish and German, Chaucer\'s English and New York slang and so on.
Best regards
