U-505 Prisoner of War - Ewald Felix

Dear All,

After U-505 was captured on 4 June 1944, the 58 surviving members of the crew were transported to Bermuda.

However, on 19/20 June, only 57 of them were disembarked in Bermuda, with just one remaining on board either USS Guadalcanal or one of the other vessels in Task Group TG 22.3.

He was Maschingefreiter Ewald Felix, who had assisted the US Navy salvage parties to keep U-505 afloat.

The remainder of U-505's crew were told that he had died aboard USS Guadalcanal and been buried at sea, but this was not true and, instead, Felix was taken to Norfolk, VA, by TG 22.3 before being despatched to an American POW Camp.

So, does anyone know what became of Felix between June 1944 and the end of the war?

He certainly did not become a POW at Camp Rustin in Louisiana with the rest of U-505's crew, and I am therefore keen to discover exactly what happened to him. Where was he held? What became of him at the end of the war? And when was he released?

Does anyone have any ideas/facts - please?

Yours aye,

Derek.
