At least for U2502 I know she went to Birkenhead as she was docked with Cammell Lairds for an overhaul in preparation for conducting 1st of class trials with her. She returned to Lisahally after the overhaul.
She never underwent 1st of class trials as the Admiralty expected/hoped to be informed about the trials the US Navy would conduct with U2513 and/or U3008. A good enough reason for the Admiralty to make no further expenses on the Type XXI in the U.K.

While it is highly probable U874 went for the same purpose to Birkenhead, I am not 100% sure about this.
