Hi,
I have a relative (George Henry Hatfield) who was on H.M Trawler Stella Capella.
UBoat.net records show the attack occurring on March 11th 1942 and the ship sinking in 2 mins 30 seconds with all hands lost. However the CWGC has date of death listed as March 19th.
Is that gap just a delay in the official registering of the death or could George have survived for 8 days?
I ask because we are adding his name to a family grave stone and I'd like to get the date of death correct.
Thanks.
