This commander of U59/U104 went on nine patrols in a period 10/39 to 11/40, sinking fifteen ships and damaging one before dying in November 1940 and yet he was not awarded ANY medals. While a fellow type IXB commander as an example, George Schewe U60/U105 in a period 7/39 to 5/41 sank fourteen ships in 10 patrols and yet he was awarded the Iron Cross 2nd and 1st, then the Knights Cross in 5/41. Was there a reason Jurst achievements went unrewarded even posthumously ?. John
