Problems with Silent Hunter 2

I have been trying FOR YEARS to play out the whole campaign from the beginning
and have had NO LUCK. The first time I tried I kept getting the SCREEN BLANKER, I think now I've solved that problem, Now... when I try to play out Fortress Europe, the game starts me off at my HOME PORT instead of where I'm supposed to start. I've tried SEVERAL times but I still start off from there and the date is June 7th!! Not the D-Day date of June 6th! Alright...maybe we got our orders too late. But now everytime I get close to the convoy I'm trying to attack to fulfill my objective the game CRASHES!!!!! I've already downloaded and installed the only patches I could find. Can anyone out there HELP?
