Hi John

This story began when U-155 was damaged by an air attack on 19 August 1942 that left it unable to dive due to damage to its batteries. Two days later it met U-510 to get some replacement parts like jump leads, but not enough to get the batteries working again, so U-510 escorted her to the tanker U-460 which handed over more cables that enabled U-155 to return to port safely.

BdU had planned to refuel U-108 from U-462, but the tanker had given more fuel to other U-boats as planned and was delayed due to troubles during refueling of U-755 on 30 August 1942. So the BdU ordered U-108 to meet U-510, which was returning to port after having fired all torpedoes except one and had plenty of fuel left. U-510 was still escorting U-155 when they met U-108, the latter getting 22.7 cbm of fuel from U-510 for its return passage.

Best regards
Rainer
